Do you know what having 3 kids means? It means that there is a whole lot of craft supplies hanging around the house…
In the futile fight against the mess, I thought I’d make a new pencil case for the kids to use. For kicks, I made it in the shape of a Hedgehog, the pencils are the spikes! So my theory is basically; child wants to see the hedgehog, child will put pencils away to do so…I’ll let you know just how that theory works out in a few weeks…
To make this project you will need:
- My Hedgehog Pencil Case plan PDF
- 3 lengths of 12mm Pine, 140mm x 250mm
- Scrollsaw or Coping Saw or Bandsaw
- Drill with various sized bits
- Paint or Lacquer finish
- Glue
Just print out 2 copies of the pattern and spray glue them onto the timber. Cut out one shape along the black line for the centre. Then cut the other along the grey outline for one of the sides. Then trace around that side to make another just like it. Drill the pencil holes, glue it up and finish it.
Originally I was going to make the pencil holes using my Kreg jig. Unfortunately the pencils I wanted to use this for, were too fat to fit in the Kreg bit holes. If I make another one I will do it for a pack of standard sized pencils. It would be one of the few projects that a Kreg jig would be useful for from an aesthetic point of view!
Instead of lengthy instructions I filmed my build of this project for Youtube. Check it out and let me know what you think!
