10 Horse heads cut up – I feel like a bad-ass Mafia guy now…

[mantra-multi][mantra-column width=”2/3″]Seeing as the race is only a week away I took the painted and outlined horse heads to the children, what a mess! 10 kids fighting for stickers, stars, feathers, skulls and more is great fun, but man, is it loud. Monster spent most of the time yelling at everyone to give him the glue, eventually we gave up and gave him a paper plate and an almost empty glue bottle, he was quiet and happy the rest of the night, #winning!

The older kids really got into it, helping the younger ones glue and sticky-tape things down. The horses are all very different looking now. And it kept them busy for an hour or more. Normally they’d be running amok in the backyard but with the rain tonight that wasn’t possible, it was good to have something for them to do inside.

They’re working at a low knock down trestle table I built a few years ago. They sit there every week for dinner, it’s been lent out to other families for parties as well. It’s the perfect height for small kids to sit at. I was going to make a couple bench seats for it but the plastic chairs were only $7 or $8 each, can’t go past that. I’ll put some plans together for the knock down table, it’s quite useful to have if you have a few kids come around.

I also had a chance to work on the spinner, it’s made just with an arrow (rough cut on the scrollsaw) which spins on a bearing inside a disc. All made from scrap, the bearing even came from an old roller blade wheel. The disc was the original template for my router table inserts which I no longer need, it was saved from the burn pile. I’ll probably make a nicer arrow for it, then will paint it up. I think it should be good to have in the future too, I can make a few laminated inserts for different games; maybe one to spin up numbers like a dice; then colours; shapes; even chores! Should be useful to have.

The plan is simply to finish off the spinner and add stakes to the horses so they can stand in the garden, then next week it’s race time!
